GEOGRAPHY PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Geography Program is located on the second floor of Candelaria Hall on the west campus of the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colorado. The Geography program is student-centered, with interaction between faculty and students oriented toward personal and professional development.
Geography students explore the human and natural world through classroom and field experiences, individual research, internships with local, state, and national agencies, participation in student-organized activities, attendance at professional meetings, and the use of modern computer equipment, software and databases. Geography students go on to careers in teaching, government, city and regional planning, tourism planning, land use and resource management, map design and construction, business geography, and geographic information science.

Greeley, Colorado
- Greeley is a town of more than 70,000 residents, and is the hometown of the University of Northern Colorado.
Fort Collins, Colorado
- Fort Collins is a town of more than 100,000 residents located 33 miles west of Greeley, and is the home of Colorado State University.
Boulder, Colorado
- Boulder is a town of more than 90,000 residents located 52 miles southwest of Greeley, and is the home of the University of Colorado.
Denver, Colorado
- Denver is the capital city of Colorado with more than 1.8 million residents in the metropolitan area. It is located 58 miles south of Greeley.
Cheyenne, Wyoming
- Cheyenne is a town of more than 70,000 residents located 52 miles north of Greeley, just across the Wyoming border.
Estes Park, Colorado
- Estes Park is an historic holiday resort community located 50 miles west of Greeley that serves as the eastern gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park.
- The Pawnee National Grassland is located 20 miles northeast of Greeley and is one of 20 National Grasslands administered by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
- The Rocky Mountain National Park is located less than one hour west of Greeley. There are over four hundred fifteen square miles of forests, lakes, and alpine tundra found in this park, among more than 110 peaks above 10,000 feet, with Longs Peak the highest at 14,255 feet.
Roosevelt and Arapaho National Forests
- The Roosevelt and Arapaho National Forests include 1.3 million acres of public land in the Rocky Mountains and foothills of northern Colorado. Boundaries extend north to the Wyoming border and south to Mt. Evans (west of Denver), running along both sides of the Continental Divide in the vicinity of the Rocky Mountain National Park.
- Colorado is reknowned worldwide for its ski resorts, many as little as 2 to 3 hours away from Greeley.
