Like many, I came to geography by the "side door" of chemistry and foreign language. The breadth and diversity of the discipline continues to intrigue and entertain me. My interests in Latin America, especially Mexico and Central America, continue. A second area of interest and research is the common or folk landscape of the U.S. Whether it be privies, mailboxes, ranch gates, or roadside memorials, if I can find more than one I want to know why they are there and what they mean.
